Project Description: AGRO4AGRI is set to revolutionise plant nutrition and protection through cutting-edge nano and biotechnology. By enhancing fertiliser efficiency and developing species-specific nematicides, the project aims to deliver sustainable and innovative solutions under the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework.

The project focuses on implementing nano and biobased controlled delivery systems for fertilisers, combined with plant biostimulants, to boost nutrient use efficiency. Additionally, it aims to develop target-specific biopesticides using RNAi technology, which are safe for humans and non-target organisms.

2. ZEBAI

Project Description: ZEBAI aims to transform the way buildings are designed by harnessing the power of artificial intelligence. By employing AI techniques, the project seeks to optimise material and system selection, streamline the design process, making it more efficient and user-friendly, and ensure that environmental and cost-effectiveness objectives are integrated.

This approach not only promises more efficient and user-friendly design processes but also holds the potential to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of buildings.

3. HEALING BAT

Funding Programme: Horizon Europe.

Project Description: HEALING BAT aims to investigate next-generation battery technologies. In particular, it seeks to develop a new class of self-healing batteries based on lithium-sulfur (Li-S), by embedding new sensor-actuator concepts to allow for implementing self-healing concepts and materials in key battery components.

Furthermore, the project will create a toolbox consisting of self-healing materials, relevant sensors and bespoke battery management systems, with the aim of maximising the performance of the developed Li-S battery in terms of quality, reliability and lifetime, as well as avoiding or timely healing occurring damages.

4. 2DNEURALVISION

Funding Programme: Horizon Europe.

EU Grant: €5.5 million.

End: 2026.

Project Description: 2DNEURALVISION aims to develop the enabling components for a low power consumption computer vision system that could be used for adverse weather and low light conditions. It will develop a 2-dimensional enhanced wide spectrum image sensor and optical neural network with enabling 2-dimensional passive and active elements, mainly based on graphene and Transition Metal Dichalcogenide (TMDC).

These 2D materials will allow for smaller devices with greater functionality, leading to disruptive computer vision improvements in areas such as the automotive industry, augmented reality, virtual reality, service robotic, and mobile device sectors.
